Lemington Consulting sells quality business software from Microsoft and other
leading software companies to customers nationwide. As a Microsoft Gold
Certified Partner and reseller, Lemington sells volume licenses to its
customers. Volume licenses differ from OEM (pre-installed software)
and Retail licenses in several important ways:
-
Volume licenses can be more cost effective than Retail licenses because the
media can be downloaded or purchased as a single item and used for many
installations;
-
Volume licenses, unlike OEM licenses, are not tied to a particular computer and
can be transferred to another computer;
-
Volume licenses, unlike Retail or OEM licenses, come with "portable use rights"
meaning a licensed user can use one license for both their desktop and their
laptop resulting in a significant savings in licensing costs;
-
Volume licenses, unlike Retail or OEM licenses, can be purchased with Software
Assurance, a Microsoft program that provides additional benefits beyond the core
Volume license including software version upgrade rights at no additional cost,
a home use purchase program providing a significant discount for purchasing an
additional license for home use (e.g. Microsoft Office), online training, and
many other benefits.
-
Volume licenses, unlike Retail or OEM licenses, includes "downgrade rights," the
option to use a previous version of a particular product rather than the current
version where compatibility with previous version is required for some reason.
The Volume license can then be upgraded to the current version at any time at no
additional cost.
